Head of Culture and Community Services
up to £70k

Reporting to the Strategic Director (Service Delivery) this role is accountable for the delivery of a challenging portfolio of services that combine to bring the best out of our District, its facilities and its community.

It requires someone who can quickly grasp the local issues, identify priorities and build, sustain and increase momentum behind key projects. These include a major capital programme to enhance our parks and play areas and supporting community facilities and related initiatives as we emerge from the pandemic.

It’s a rich and varied role, with a range of community touch-points: - from community safety and safeguarding, to voluntary sector support; cultural development and events planning, to sports development; youth engagement to health & wellbeing. You’ll oversee the management of a range of cultural and leisure amenities, including leisure centres, open spaces, and community facilities.

You’ll be ready to grasp the accountability of being the lead adviser for the service. Strong and evidence based success of your leadership achievements are vital along with your ability to work across teams and collaborate effectively with other Heads of Service.   Simply put, teamwork and collaboration are how we work.

You need to bring energy, agility and be focused on moving forward. Credible and engaging in a highly visible role, you’ll be able to win trust and confidence from others and draw on the contribution of a wide range of stakeholders in establishing South Derbyshire as a great place to live, visit and invest.

Political nous and a strong ability to work closely with Elected Members are essential, and your personal ambition should be matched by ambition for your service.
